BRIDGE TO ETERNITY
Oil on board, 34x47"

BRIDGE TO ETERNITY  is a narrative derived from Stravinsky's ballet of the same name.  It also pays homage to Picasso.

THE POET, sketch, 11x8.5"

This drawing of a troubled poet was completed a few years prior to the conception of THE BRIDGE TO ETERNITY  and is the inspiration for the whole  piece.

The poet, moved by Spring, studies her writing. She is immersed in her environment and guarded by her muses.
A Harlequin leads the show, Nijinsky directs the dance, and visitors come.

A virgin is selected and dances through death, transforming the seasons.  She rises to meet the spirits of those  who have danced before her. The Three Graces disguise the primary divine impulse for the poet--the flaming head of a nameless god.
